Today has been a day of existentialism and of overall contemplation of life. So Kip asks:
Whats the deal with tumblr?
Nowdays I get asked this question really often: "Why don't you have a tumblr?"
Well, its because I don't understand WHATS THE FUCKING POINT?
I am sincerely confused as to why anyone would use this service, so someone who does PLEASE explain to me why anyone would prefer tumblr over DA. Yes this is mostly a rant but I really want to understand it too.
Things I know about tumblr:
A lot of artists are leaving DA for Tumblr for reasons no one has been able to explain to me. Tumblr has ability to post stuff and people can like it, you can also post others' stuff by retweeting it or something. What this practically means though is that I go to an artist's tumblr and have to scroll down miles and miles of "shit that I like" including but not limited to ducks, convenience items, food, personalized raincoats for ferrets, miniature railroads, travel ads, midgets, rad shoes, and occasionally a fat girl JUST to find what content this person is actually posting. It gets really confusing to me because sometimes you cannot tell what is made by the artist and what is just retweeted. There is no gallery function of any kind so all the content the artist puts out is buried under heaps of unnecessary retweets and blogs about republicans driving this country down or baby seals' animal rights.
So what is the catch? Why do people suffer with this kind of thing instead of just clicking a single button which presents a neatly organized gallery with all of the artist's pictures in a tidy row?
Is it the retweeting ability? That your work gets around faster because people share it? It can't be comments since its a horrifying mess of hodgepodge where one person comments here and another there and you hardly get notified of it. Is it the anonymity? That its fast and simple?
I just don't know. I feel like I'm missing out on potential audience but on the other hand I'm really against using a service thats a big fuck you to my way of doing stuff.
Thank you for sharing a piece of your mind with me~
